Coronavirus Information

UPDATE

March 31, 2020

During the recent address to the public, the President of the United States extended the social distancing order through April 30, 2020. In response to this order, our offices will remain closed to the public for the entire month of April, 2020.  In addition to addressing the safety & health of our staff, our office will continue to maintain our obligations to our residents and clientele by following the ongoing recommendations and guidance as given by the experts. If any resident has a Public Housing related issue, they  should email us at: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.  or call our office at 904-630-3810, and follow the prompts. For all after-hours and weekend emergencies, please call 1-877-562-9450.

In addition JHA also has decided to extend the closing of our offices for the JHA employees until Monday, April 6, 2020. While most of the staff is returning to work or telecommuting, this still allows us to be in compliance with the current Federal guidelines of the Social Distancing practice for the health and safety of our staff, residents and clients.
It is so very important that we follow medical guidance regarding how to care for ourselves. Social distancing and avoiding interaction with others appears to be one of the top management tools. You should never be closer than 6 feet to anyone at any time that you are working for us or at any other time, for your safety. Please wear gloves at all times during work in our offices, units or other JHA Properties.
Unfortunately, we must continue to have very limited contact with residents, vendors or others. I will continue to look for ways to engage our residents and vendors so that they understand the critical decisions that we must make.
Your wellness is extremely important. Remember do not report to work if you are ill, if you have a fever or other COVID 19 symptoms.  If you are diagnosed with any symptoms, please immediately notify us.

As more information develops related to the COVID-19 health crisis, our essential functions may change, which may require adjustments to the essential staffing needs. We will actively monitor any mandatory changes or restrictions placed in the general population as we continue to keep everyone updated through the channels of communication.

Among our existing resources, and the efforts of staff, we will continue to fight this dangerous pathogen and its threat to our residents health and security. It is our goal to continue to nourish a healthy and safe community.

March 26, 2020

In our ongoing effort to provide a safe and healthy environment for our senior and disabled residents who live in our three apartment towers, the Jacksonville Housing Authority is using a special electrostatic spraying method to disinfect the properties.

Workers have completed spraying all public areas, offices and residences at Hogan Creek Tower, Centennial Towers and are expected to complete the spraying of Twin Towers today. In all, the three towers house close to 600 senior residents. We will continue disinfecting all of our elderly buildings, then office buildings in every community.

Electrostatic disinfecting is a way of quickly and evenly coating a surface with a disinfecting solution by applying a negative charge to the disinfecting solution onto a positive surface charge.

“This is a highly effective way of reducing the risks that the coronavirus will spread among the most vulnerable population - our elderly residents,” said JHA Interim Executive Director and CEO Dwayne Alexander.

March 19, 2020

As we continue to keep the health and safety of our staff, clients, and community, our top priority, effective March 20, 2020, at 5 p.m., ALL JHA offices will be closed to the public.  Specifically, effective March 20, 2020, at 5 p.m., all non-essential/non-emergency employees should remain home. We plan to reopen our offices on Wednesday, April 1, 2020, at 8:00 a.m. Employees should contact their department heads to determine if they are considered an essential or emergency employee.  Should this date change, we will be sure to update you with new plans.  Employees who are exhibiting symptoms consistent with COVID-19 (running nose, cough, fever, headaches,  etc.) should NOT report to work regardless of their status as an essential or emergency employee. Essential and emergency employees are expected to report to work as usual. Employees wishing to “work-from-home” should make such request to their department heads.

Effective Friday, March 20, 2020, at 5 p.m. JHA will be conducting only emergency service repairs until we resume operations on April 1, 2020, at 8:00 a.m. However, residents with after-hours emergency maintenance-related issues should continue to call JHA’s On Call Service Center at 1-877-562-9450. Any resident with housing-related public problems during regular working hours should email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or call 904-630-3810.

Also, effective March 20, 2020, at 5 p.m. JHA’s Housing Programs Department will postpone all HCV HQS inspections with plans to resume normal operations on April 1, 2020. Only initial inspections that are already in process and Emergency HQS inspections will be conducted. Clients and landlords can reach the HCV via email at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or by phone at (904) 630-3810 to schedule, reschedule, or request an emergency inspection.

While exposure and risk levels are changing daily, it is important to exercise precautionary measures to limit the spread of this virus.  We understand that this is a challenging and dynamic time. We are asking our staff and clients to continue to monitor the situation closely, with resources made available from the CDC, HUD,  the World Health Organization, and the City of Jacksonville.

Please be aware that these plans may be subject to change according to new developments. We appreciate your continued partnership, support, and understanding as we all work to adapt to this unprecedented situation.

Sincerely,

Dwayne Alexander, CPM®

Interim President & CEO

 March 17, 2020

Like all of you, we’ve been monitoring the evolving impact of the Coronavirus (COVID‑19) pandemic. The health and safety of our residents and employees is our first priority. As such, effective immediately, we are suspending all in-person meetings. We also are limiting Public access to all JHA offices to emergency situations. The Public Housing and Section 8 Programs will accept paperwork via email, fax, or scanned documents. A drop box for each program will also be placed outside the door of the main building at 1300 N. Broad Street. Each JHA property location will also have drop boxes to receive information. The location of the boxes will either be outside of the building or in the lobby. All interviews and/or appointments will be conducted by phone.

If your residence is scheduled for an inspection, a JHA staff person will first contact you by phone prior, to entering your unit to determine your health condition. In cases where there is a concern, we will not do HQS/UPCS/Housekeeping Inspections or routine work orders, under either program, for a minimum of two weeks. At that time, we will reassess the situation, and respond accordingly. We will continue to complete emergency workorders. Again, all staff will be accepting documentation either by email, fax, scan or to limit

traffic agency wide.

The Department of Housing and Urban Development's COVID-19 page states: “everyone should continue promoting everyday disease prevention strategies":

    • If you are sick, stay home from work or school.
    • Avoid close contact with those who are already sick.
    • Cover your nose and mouth when coughing or sneezing with a tissue or the crook of your arm.
    • Wash your hands often with soap and water.
    • Avoid touching eyes, nose, or mouth.
